Kilkenny Catwalk Art Trail

The Kilkenny Catwalk 2021 art trail featuring 21 magnificent cat sculptures will follow a route around the city centre. Visitors will be invited to follow the trail, located in our beautiful public spaces many of which are attached to the heritage buildings around the city, and find out more about the art and the artists, and make bids for a sculpture by downloading the Kilkenny Catwalk 2021 App. The trail is designed to immerse people in Kilkenny’s rich heritage. The Kilkenny Catwalk 2021 Art Trail will raise money which will be reinvested by the Kilkenny Civic Trust in vital conservation work.

THE ST MARY’S ALMSHOUSES REFURBISHMENT PROJECT
Kilkenny City had many Almshouses to care for the poor – the oldest dating back to 1582 is the Shee Almshouse a Tudor building on Mary’s Lane. St Mary’s Almshouses were built in the early 19th century in Kilkenny City for the relief of distressed widows. The buildings are shown on an ordnance survey map circa 1839 and still retain much of their characteristic features. By preserving and restoring the St Mary’s Almshouses, Kilkenny County Council and Kilkenny Civic Trust seek to maintain and nurture the environment and cultural heritage of the City as part of its identity. Sensitive restoration will give a new lease of life to these historic buildings, create a valuable economic and tourism resource for Kilkenny City and a wonderful legacy for future generations to enjoy. The aim of this project is to bring the building back into use, to give it a new purpose whilst telling the story of Almshouses in Kilkenny City.

Visit www.kilkennycatwalk.ie to read more about the project, and make sure to follow along on Social Media on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for updates.

The Trail launches on Kilkenny Day on Sunday October 10th.
