Ciaran Conroy

Hello. My name is Ciaran Conroy, CEO of Kilkenny Civic Trust. I am a husband, father, sports coach, marathon runner, music festival goer and avid hurling fan. I also take great pride in playing a small part in the vibrant community of Kilkenny.

I have started this blog to share some thoughts and opinions and keep people informed of what the Kilkenny Civic Trust is doing and the various initiatives we are partaking in.

Our main purpose is to manage and market the properties under our remit and to provide a great customer experience at each attraction. We also actively participate with local and national organisations in the development of the tourism potential of Kilkenny City & County as well as helping to promote awareness of the rich heritage of Kilkenny. A key objective of mine is to play our part in enriching the lives of the local community and developing the cultural life of Kilkenny through our properties and events.

Right now is an exciting period in the development of the Civic Trust and through a series of blog posts I hope to illustrate how interesting and varied the work we carry out is, as well as giving you a taste of what it is like to work in this exciting sector of the economy.

Kilkenny Civic Trust was set up in 1989 to play a part in protecting Kilkenny’s proud built heritage and since then has managed Butler House, a historic city centre guesthouse and the adjacent properties at Castle Yard, which are home to the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, Kilkenny Design Centre and a number of smaller craft- related businesses.

In February of this year we became the licensed operators of the former St Marys Church which is now the ‘’Medieval Mile Museum’’. Our role is to operate and market this wonderful visitor attraction to the world. The former St Mary’s Church now hosts select events and exhibitions for the public to enjoy as well as being an award winning new museum. We have also recently refurbished Butler House and now provide all day dining in this wonderful historic property. Come along if you have a moment, relax and choose from Chef Gerard’s mouth-watering menu.

I hope that through the blog posts you may find some items of interest.
